Photos: Hundreds take in immersive experience at Coquitlam's World of Love carnival

Gloomy summer weather couldn't keep more than 250 performers and vendors from showcasing their traditions at Town Centre Park on Aug. 24.

Embodying the spirit of cultural exchange for a unified community.

That was missing accomplished for organizers of the 2024 World of Love Multicultural Carnival that took place in Coquitlam's Town Centre Park last month.

Despite a summer storm passing through early the morning of Aug. 24, more than 250 performers shared smiles with local residents and visitors in attendance through dance, music, passion and tradition.

"Our World of Love Multicultural Carnival offers an array of interactive and educational activities for all ages," said Joanna Wu, chairwoman of the North American Chinese Culture Promotion Society, in a release to the Tri-City News.

"Visitors can immerse themselves in various cultural traditions through hands-on experiences."

The third annual carnival also acted as a fundraiser, in which $1,000 in proceeds from the event's art exhibition were donated to the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation.

Wu said this reinforces World of Love's "commitment to giving back to the local community."

Performers represented 10 different countries on the Town Centre Park Community Stage: Argentina, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Korea, Scotland and Nepal.

A lantern show also added enchantment to World of Love's set-up, featuring ancient Qinhuai River-style lanterns from Nanjing, China.

Multicultural food vendors also set up for the 2024 edition of the festival, as well as face painting and hand-on traditional Chinese calligraphy workshops.
