About a million LED lights will be aglow when Coquitlam’s annual Lights at Lafarge display at Town Centre Park officially opens on Nov. 22.

But visitors to the park are getting an early preview as crews of civic workers and volunteers install the lights and special features over the course of almost two weeks.

The effort takes hundreds of hours and kilometres of electrical cords to alight the 1.2-km path that circumnavigates the lake as well as surrounding bushes, trees and special displays.

The lights are often on as the work progresses so any problems or outages can quickly be found and corrected.

The special kick-off event next Friday, Nov. 22, begins at 5 p.m. with musical performances ahead of the opening ceremonies at 7:25 p.m. and a unique fire and light show afterwards.

The display runs from 4 to 10 p.m. daily through the end of February 2025.
