Coquitlam and area residents who frequent Lafarge Lake may have noticed some trees that look like they're leaning into the trail — or simply dying altogether.
These are considered "hazardous trees" and city crews are set to remove them on-and-off between Monday and Friday (Oct. 25-29), forcing temporary closures around the loop.
In a release, Coquitlam urban forestry and parks services manager Erin Gorby says the object is to maintain the trail's safety for future use.
"These trees have been identified as hazardous by a certified arborist in an annual tree risk assessment for the area. Hazardous trees are either dead, in decline, leaning heavily or rotting."
Gorby adds the trees will ultimately be replaced with species set to last longer and ones more suitable for Lafarge Lake's surrounding environment.
Walkers, joggers and anyone else looking to access the loop trail can still do so next week as Gorby explains detours will be put in place for pedestrians to safely move around crews taking down the trees.
Signs will be posted alerting residents and visitors as well.
