About a dozen members of Coquitlam RCMP and their supporters exchanged their work shoes for runners this morning, June 5, to participate in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to raise money for Special Olympics BC.
The 2.61 km run around Coquitlam’s City Centre neighbourhood is one of 13 scheduled around the province until June 9. Port Moody police also held their run on Wednesday.
Officers and civilian staff are hoping to raise $3,000.
The money is used to help ensure Special Olympics competitions remain accessible to as many athletes as possible.
It also helps raise community awareness about some of their remarkable achievements and promote acceptance.
There are more than 5,200 Special Olympics athletes registered in the province.
