Coquitlam Express goalie Adam Manji made 39 saves and another three in the shootout to lead his team to a 2-1 win over the Chilliwack Chiefs, Friday at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.
Less than a week after Manji was chased from the Express net when he surrendered four goals in the first 10 minutes of a 9-2 loss to the Surrey Eagles last Sunday, Manji appeared en route to a 1-0 shutout win. But Chilliwack’s Brian Morse was able to tie the game at 18:18 of the third period and Chiefs goalie Vladimir Nikitin on the bench for an extra attacker.
Joseph Odyniec staked the home team to a 1-0 lead with a shorthanded goal midway through the second period.
Neither team was able to score in the 10-minute overtime.
Nikitin stopped 27 shots in Chilliwack’s net.
The two teams play each other again on Saturday, 6 p.m., at the Chilliwack Coliseum.
The Express have won four of the five games its played against the Chiefs so far this season.
