Photos: Centennial students take stage with Coquitlam seniors

Centennial Secondary students Abi MacKinnon and Dylan Ayres are performing with Coquitlam's Dogwood Drama Club in a holiday show at the 50+ centre. Tickets are now for sale.

A drama group at a Coquitlam 50+ centre reached across the road to recruit students from Centennial Secondary for its upcoming holiday show.

Joanne Stables, who is directing the Dogwood Drama Club in its Dec. 1, 2 and 3 productions brought on theatre students Abi MacKinnon and Dylan Ayres to perform with the group, which was in need of two more actors.

The club is presenting Tim Kelly’s Santa and the Wicked Wazoo, featuring the high school students, as well as Home for the Holidays by Bob Naquin.

“It’s great to have the seniors and youth together on stage,” said Rocky Menzies, who portrays Santa Claus in Santa and the Wicked Wazoo and Gail in Home for the Holidays.

Both students will receive high school credit for their volunteer performances, Stables said.

Tickets at $10 are now for sale from the drama club members and the Dogwood Designs gift shop at Dogwood Pavilion (1655 Winslow Ave., Coquitlam). The shows start at 1:30 p.m. and refreshments will be served. Call 604-931-5243 for more details.
