An elderly woman walking along Austin Avenue in Coquitlam on Saturday morning was hit and killed by an out-of-control vehicle.
It appears that an elderly man driving in front of the Safeway store lost control and drove up onto the sidewalk, where the woman was killed.
The driver stayed on the scene and is co-operating with police.
Members of the RCMP's Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service responded to the collision to support Coquitlam's traffic unit, with traffic on Austin, between Blue Mountain and Marmont streets closed for several hours.
The investigation is ongoing and police have not released the woman's name.
