Keenan Adams will be the BC Conservative's candidate in Port Coquitlam in the next provincial election, scheduled for Oct. 19, 2024.

The BC United candidate running against Port Coquitlam NDP MLA Mike Farnworth has jumped ship.

Keenan Adams announced online last week he had moved to the BC Conservatives following BC United leader Kevin Falcon’s decision to suspend his party’s campaign late last month.

Adams did not respond to requests for comment from the Tri-City News after Falcon’s announcement; however, on social media, Adams wrote that while his team is “heartbroken and disappointed,” he would be switching parties with the aim to defeat the incumbent NDP government.

“We cannot afford another four years of reckless spending with no results,” he wrote.

“I'm advocating for safer streets, proper addiction support and addressing the cost of living and the housing crisis.”

A locomotive engineer who has lived in Port Coquitlam since 2010, Adams faces Farnworth — B.C.'s deputy premier, Solicitor General and minister of public safety — on the Oct. 19, 2024, ballot (there is currently no BC Green Party candidate).
