Coquitlam commuters will soon see several new upgrades along, what is arguably, one of the city's busiest traffic corridors.
Crews are set to begin a two-month project on Lougheed Highway between Pitt River Road and ƛ̓éxətəm Road (Colony Farm Road) starting Monday (July 31).
The good news (for most): work will take place overnight for as minimal impact on traffic as possible, the city said.
Newly-paved roads and markers, traffic signal upgrades, signage and street lights are among the improvements planned for the 1.5-kilometre stretch.
Coquitlam's public works department explained the work will take place Monday to Friday until late September from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Occasional weekend work, if needed, will also take place during night time hours.
As a result, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction, and there may be turning restrictions at intersections.
Coquitlam staff are encouraging drivers to take another route, or to give themselves extra time if they need to use Lougheed Highway at night.
