A corner of Copacobana is coming to Port Moody.
The Site B community and event space (3012 Murray St.) is hosting a Brazilian summer market on Saturday, Aug. 24.
The free market, which runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., features Brazilian food like brigadeiros, churros and cheese bread, as well as a variety of Brazilian artisans offering handmade gifts like pillows, satchels, storybooks, jewelry and kids clothing. There’s also a kids zone.
It’s the first time the market has alighted in Port Moody, after two previous iterations in Vancouver.
In a post on social media, the organizers, all of whom are women, said the Site B location is much larger than its former base at Beaumont Studios and Saturday’s event has attracted twice as many vendors.
“It’s really been a challenge but we’re overcoming the obstacles,” they said.
According to Statistics Canada, about 15,000 Brazilians live in British Columbia — many of them in Metro Vancouver.
Since opening in a refurbished warehouse in 2022, Site B has become an increasingly popular destination for small markets celebrating holidays like Valentines, Oktoberfest Mother’s Day and Christmas, a night market and even professional wrestling.
Co-founder Chris Peacock said the uses for the expansive, open floor plan is listed only by the imagination and creativity of those who book it.
“It’s kind of a blank pallet,” he said. “Their own vision gets implanted.”
