A new sport conditioning academy will start enrolling Grade 9 to 12 students at Port Coquitlam's Riverside secondary after the Tri-Cities' board of education approved the program Tuesday.
The new four-credit course will provide 100 hours of instruction under the supervision of a Riverside teacher and Twist Sport Conditioning Centre, a PoCo business.
According to a report to the board, students will learn how maintain a fitness typical of a high-performance athlete. The cost will be $628.96 because the district is allowed to charge fees for special academies but the money will enable students to participate in the high-level program using state-of-the-art fitness and exercise facilities, the board of education was told.
Information about the course is available on the district's website, www.sd43.bc.ca.
