The crew of Bedlam II - made up mostly of Tri-City residents - is expected to reach the Hawaiian shore on Monday.
The six sailors under Port Moody skipper and boat owner Al Slater set off from Victoria on July 3 for the biennial Vic-Maui race.
According to John Johnstone's tweets (@svbedlam2), the 1968 C&C41 Redline Yacht was stuck in the Pacific High for a few days last week but winds have since picked up.
On Tuesday, he tweeted: "Bedlam is inching their way forward in the #vicmaui race... currently in 2nd place in Racing C with first in their sights!"
On board the 41-foot boat with Slater and Vancouver's Johnstone are Port Moody's Gordon Penner, watch captain Gary McKinnon and Devin Jain, and Coquitlam resident Kevin Treharne.
