Letter: Wesgroup has gone above and beyond trying to please Port Moody council's wish list

The Coronation Park development application is going to public hearing on April 5 and I am hoping citizens of Port Moody will voice their support for the proposal that is being put forward by Wesgroup Properties.
Coronation Park currently consists of 59 homes in varying state of disrepair.
This assembly has been going on since 2014 and has become a burden for a lot of the residents and homeowners.
Some are dealing with home repairs they can’t afford, increased taxes as they have not owned their properties for over 10 years, and the mental strain of not knowing the direction their lives will be going.
Residents like myself are eager to move on with the plans and don’t want any more delays.
The Wesgroup plan provides much-needed housing for Port Moody, bringing with it a daycare, public space, office space, city use space and retail/office space.
This would truly be an asset to our community.
The site is also in the 800 m catchment area of the Inlet SkyTrain station and is perfectly suited for residents of the area to use the SkyTrain as it was intended.
Whether we wanted SkyTrain or not, it is here, and it is our responsibility to move forward and plan development around the stations.
Ask yourself, why did we put SkyTrain through Port Moody if we have no intention to build around the stations?
The intent of the SkyTrain going through Port Moody was to move the greater population. I personally find the SkyTrain a very convenient way to move about the city.
To be able to make this development viable there is always a give and take between city and developer.

The Tri-City News reported in a previous article that the City of Port Moody is faced with a possible 5.97 per cent tax increase. Wouldn’t it make sense to support growth and increase your tax base to help alleviate part of the tax burden?
I’m in support of this development and I hope residents in Port Moody will phone or email council members to express their support for moving forward with plans for Coronation Park.
