Letter: Port Coquitlam 'discriminates' on recreation drop-ins

This letter writer claims it's now "virtually impossible" for non-Port Coquitlam residents to sign up for PoCo recreation classes.

The Editor,

Re: Port Coquitlam residents get first pick at drop-in rec classes (April 1, 2024)

I am writing regarding your article of April 1 outlining changes to Port Coquitlam’s online registration for drop-in recreation classes.

One week in, the changes (which allow PoCo residents a two-hour advance registration window) it is now virtually impossible for non-residents to sign up for any of the popular fitness classes.

This discriminatory policy is especially unconscionable given that the new Port Coquitlam Community Centre was funded in part by $12.5 million in federal funds.

If the municipalities are unable to play fair, then it may be time to revisit shared services including possible amalgamation of the Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam.
