The Editor:
I have always been concerned about the fragile state of our world: Growing up and living in supernatural B.C. has always been a great joy.
As I reflect on the state of the environment that we are handing to our grandchildren, I despair.
Too often, we are putting profit before good common sense, and our future generations will be paying for it.
In 2023, Canadians faced an unprecedented cost-of-living crisis while billionaires and CEOs raked in record profits.
Why should fossil fuel companies get to wreak havoc on the planet for profit while we struggle to pay our bills?
Why would our federal government subsidize the corporations that are responsible for the climate crisis while we are forced to shoulder the costly impacts of extreme weather?
The time is now. Enough is enough.
Cheap, clean, renewable energy is the key to a better future.
Our governments need to stop propping up the volatile fossil fuel sector and start investing in a renewable energy transition that protects our planet and our wallets.
And our provincial governments across Canada (are you listening Alberta?) must stop misinforming citizens about renewable energy.
We all have to act.
