Letter: It might be time to consider rezoning this Coquitlam road

A letter writer believes the City of Coquitlam, like neighbouring Port Coquitlam, should look into redeveloping areas with older single family homes.

The Editor:

Coquitlam needs to do better to utilize their zoning potentials around Westwood Street.

Why is it that the stretch of Westwood to Kingsway and from then on to the other side of Lougheed still single-family homes?

If you look on the other side of the Kingsway train tracks, it's majority multi-family developments.

This is a main thoroughfare with high accessibility and walkability and is centrally located within the city.

Port Coquitlam has it right.

They have vast developments ongoing especially down Kingsway near the river where they are creating a huge development that includes features for low income people and social services like day cares.

Coquitlam City Hall is falling far behind in terms of those services.

It's time to start densifying the much needed areas.

With access to the West Coast Express and a stones throw from Highway 1 and the Evergreen line, it's a no-brainer that the Westwood Street area should not be single family homes.
