The Editor,
Re: 'Everybody is upset': Residents of Port Moody's Ioco neighbourhood say trains disrupting their sleep (Nov. 28, 2024)
I live along Ioco Road and I have a train line right at my backyard.
Rosemary Small and the 65 complainants should be aware that these train engineers are doing their job and applying all safety measures for residents near the line.
The train line has been there for many years — before people started moving into the area — so, in hindsight, before moving into a neighbourhood, you should check to see what is near you that may cause disturbance during the day and night.
I've only heard the train horns at crosswalk areas where they should be using the horn.
If you don't like the noise, move away to somewhere quieter.
And please do not tell these train operators how to do their jobs.
I am not a train employee or work for any railway company, so I totally understand the request for a limited use of the horn at certain times of the night.
I respect these operators and the hard work they do to pass through the neighbourhood as quietly as possible and give the warnings where need be.
We've had a number of people walking along the train lines at night and put themselves in danger.
So, Rosemary Small and Co., if you don't like the trains doing their jobs for everyone's safety, it's time to move elsewhere.
