Re: Measures taken at Port Coquitlam pool after lifeguard complaints (Oct. 15, 2024)

I would like to mention, along with the air quality concerns at the PCCC [Port Coquitlam Community Centre], that as a custodian of 20-plus years in the education industry that this pool and other uses in the given areas (i.e., steam room and the showers stalls) are in a state of much-needed cleaning.

The showers do not work most of the time.

The lights in the steam room work periodically, with only one illuminated at best.

The growth of black mould on the underside of the lower seating area in the steam room is deplorable (black build-up of a substance should not be present in such a humid environment).

There are dirt lines on the upper side of the pool edge, as well with the hot tub area.

And although the areas of the shower booth stalls are hosed down, these areas must be sanitized on a daily basis.

Of course, when the PCCC is not in use, the cleaning standards of all these areas need much more attention to detail.
