Coquitlam Mounties have identified several areas that have seen a recent uptick in break-ins, according to the detachment's most recent CompStat alert.
The area around Coquitlam Centre has seen several thefts at businesses and police said the incidents appear to be occurring on Mondays and Saturdays between 8 and 10 p.m. - after business hours.
The hotspot also includes a small area between Christmas Way in the north to the railroad tracks in the south to Pheasant Street in the west to Gordon Avenue in the east.
A second area that has seen a sudden rise in business break-ins of late is located in the Maillardville area, from Roderick Avenue in the West to Woolridge Street in the east. Thefts have occurred overnight between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., Friday to Tuesday, and various methods have been used to gain entry. There were also several thefts from vehicles in this neighbourhood.
Residential break-ins have also occurred in the Panorama Drive area between Stoneridge Lane in the west to Greenstone Court in the east. Police said that these thefts occurred between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Saturdays and that access was usually gained through the front door.
As part of the Coquitlam RCMP's crime-reduction strategy, investigators plan to release crime statistics and identify break-in hot spots. The information is released every two weeks and is available at the detachment's website (coquitlam.rcmp-grc.gc.ca).
