Inquest to be held into inmate's death

The Coroners Service of BC will be holding an inquest into the death last spring of Roland Joseph Bourque, who was an inmate at the North Fraser Pre-Trial Centre. Bourque, 69, died on the morning of April 3, 2012 at the Port Coquitlam jail.

The Coroners Service of BC will be holding an inquest into the death last spring of Roland Joseph Bourque, who was an inmate at the North Fraser Pre-Trial Centre.

Bourque, 69, died on the morning of April 3, 2012 at the Port Coquitlam jail.

Coroner Vincent Stancato and a jury will hear evidence from subpoenaed witnesses to determine the facts surrounding his death. The jury can't make any findings of legal responsibility but it can make recommendations to prevent deaths under similar circumstances in the future.

Bourque's cause of death wasn't released but the coroner's office has said it was not natural. No date has been set for the inquest.

Another inmate died at the NFPC last year; the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called in to investigate the death of David William Brodrick, 44, on July 15 but no information has since been released.
