Dozens of Tri-Cities residents are expected to take over Port Coquitlam's scenic trails that border the Pitt River next month.
The third annual Fremont 5k Run is scheduled to take place on June 4 — a community fundraiser that advocates for safe spaces and programming for local residents fleeing domestic violence.
And while the event is still fairly young, organizers are hoping to go above and beyond last year's total of more than $1,300.
"Port Coquitlam truly has the best events. We're excited to keep growing this one, and it was such a great turnout last year," said Steph Wagner, event spokesperson on behalf of local real estate firm Permack and Associates.
"This year's event is sure to be a hit, and we're really looking forward to it!"
Every single nickel raised will be earmarked for the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation that will be downstreamed to Tri-City Transitions.
The money is set to help strengthen essential services for women and children that have or are currently facing abuse at home.
The Port Coquitlam-based society recently received $40,000 from the B.C. government for its healing circles program supporting Indigenous kids that have survived domestic violence.
Permack and Associates co-hosts the Fremont 5k Run with Function Health Club (3162-585 Seaborne Ave.) and NiceLife Cocktails (1170-573 Sherling Pl.) — formerly known as Provincial Spirits).
The route is set to take participants along the Traboulay PoCo Trail and through the Fremont Village neighbourhood.
Registration includes a finisher's medal after the run and access to the event's after party, which will include live music, games and a beverage from NiceLife Cocktails.
The Fremont 5k Run will take place next Sunday (June 4) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
