A Port Moody police officer confiscated more than just booze last Saturday when he confronted a group of young men openly drinking at White Pine Beach.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., an officer patrolling Bedwell Bay Road approached four men and ordered them to dump out their liquor.

Three of the men complied but when the fourth did not, the officer noticed the man adjusting an object in his waistband, according to Port Moody Police spokesperson Const. Bill Kim.

The officer called for additional officers to help conduct a search of the man. That search found a loaded .40 calibre semi-automatic handgun on the suspect.

It was then that the officers also discovered the licence plate on the vehicle the four men had been driving in matched one reported stolen.

All four men were arrested and the gun and vehicle were seized for forensic analysis, Const. Kim said.

ARMOUR FOUND

Police arrested two Port Moody people Sunday when they responded to a report of a domestic dispute and found illegal body armour and marijuana.

PoMo cops responded to the disturbance in the 100-block of Brew Street at approximately 10:20 a.m. Sunday, according to Kim. On arrival, the officers met with a man they said is well known to police. Police asked to speak with the man's girlfriend but he told them she had just left.

The woman was subsequently found a short time later in Eagle Ridge Hospital, where she was receiving treatment for an unrelated ailment.

During their investigation at the home, officers determined that no physical assault had taken place between the couple. But when the man's mother arrived, the mother and son began to verbally abuse police. They were both arrested for causing a disturbance and for obstruction, Kim said.

Police searched the residence and found three sets of body armour and a bag of marijuana. Police determined the man had no permits allowing him to have the armour.

The man was arrested for unlawful possession of body armour, possession of a controlled substance, causing a disturbance and obstruction while his mother was arrested for causing a disturbance and obstruction.

Both were released on a promise to appear in Port Coquitlam court Sept. 8.
