Canada's governor general will be in Coquitlam this week to talk with cultural leaders about Maillardville.
The Right Honourable David Johnston and his wife, Sharon, will visit the French-Canadian enclave to speak with the representatives - including from Societe francophone de Maillardville and Place des Arts - about the area that was founded more than 100 years ago by Fraser Mills workers.
In its heyday, Fraser Mills was the largest sawmill in the Commonwealth, attracting many workers and their families from Quebec; Maillardville is now one of the oldest and largest francophone community in western Canada.
The neighbourhood is currently undergoing a revitalization by the city, developers and businesses.
