Coquitlam is selling the advantages of the Evergreen Line and its position as the last municipality before the new tolled Port Mann bridge to attract new businesses to the city centre.
In a press release on its website, Mayor Richard Stewart is inviting businesses to get a head start in locating in the city centre of Coquitlam before the Evergreen Line is built.
"Coquitlam is the best place in the Lower Mainland to start or grow a business right now" Mayor Richard Stewart stated in the press release. He also plugged initiatives to make the city more business-friendly, such as a streamlined development and business application process and a business retention and expansion program.
"Businesses that secure a space in the City Centre prior to the completion of the Evergreen ALRT Line will have the advantage of securing the best space in the area and will have a strong foothold before the line is completed," the release further states, adding that the city is the last stop before the soon-to-be tolled Port Mann Bridge.
A reduced rate for tolls begins in December when eight of the bridge's eventual 10 lanes open.
Drivers who do not register for the sticker and account, or choose the pay-as-you-go option, will pay $3 per trip beginning March 1.
Meanwhile, construction is underway for the $1.4 billion Burnaby to Coquitlam Evergreen Line, which is expected to be in service by the summer of 2016.
