Como Lake Avenue west of Mariner Way will be down to single-lane traffic for up to two weeks as FortisBC continues its work on a new natural gas pipeline.
According to FortisBC spokesperson Alex Munro, the additional closure came after the company found possible dents in the pipes during routine testing.
"Recent testing revealed an area where we need to re-examine the gas line," Munro said in an email to The Tri-City News. "Before a line becomes operational, we complete a number of tests and inspections to ensure it meets our high standards."
FortisBC said at least one westbound lane and one eastbound lane will be open on Como Lake while a detour has been put in place for drivers heading further east on Spuraway Avenue.
"We expect this closure will last up to two weeks and appreciate the community's patience during these final stages of work on our gas line upgrades," Munro said.
This week's announcement comes as work on the pipeline is wrapping up in several places along Como Lake Avenue. The intersection at Baker Drive re-opened, along with Robinson Street between Como Lake and Lea avenues.
