Five Tri-Cities residents reviving 'forgotten' musical with APPLAUSE!

COQUITLAM — Five Tri-Cities residents will be featured in a musical comedy whodunit next month on Granville Island in Vancouver.

Five Tri-Cities residents are cast in a musical comedy whodunit next month.

Bronte Gooselaw, Rebecca Erin Curtis, Randy McCormick and Tessa Trach of Coquitlam, as well as Peter Stainton of Port Coquitlam, are in the APPLAUSE! Musicals in Concert show Curtains.

It runs from Oct. 13 to 15 at Arts Umbrella on Granville Island.

A production with music and lyrics from John Kander and Fred Ebb — a duo best known for their work on Chicago and Cabaret — Curtains is a parody that follows a detective as he investigates an on-stage murder.

But when the cast and crew disappear, the story takes a turn.

Also appearing in Curtains is Emily Burden, Vanessa Coley-Donohue, Cole Devlin,, Grace Hight, Dakota Hutchins, Brodie Klassen, Jacob Leonard, Loughran MacLeod, Tara Martin, Ryan Nuenz, Kat Palmer, Sabrina Prada, Thomas Schultes, Dane Smit, Keri Smith, Andrew Wade, Bonnie Welch, Michael Wild and Jessica Wong.

It is directed by Scott Ashton Swan with musical direction from Diane Spiers.

Curtains is the 49th musical in concert for APPLAUSE!, the only company in Canada that aims to shed light on rare, shelved and forgotten musicals.

Performers are given a week to rehearse before the concert, which sees actors holding scripts and minimal staging and lighting.
