At least five people were sent to hospital, including two with critical injuries, after a horrific crash on the Brunette Avenue overpass on Sunday morning.
Around 9 a.m., a vehicle eastbound on Highway 1 took the Brunette off-ramp at extremely high speed and struck the traffic island - launching it airborne "Dukes of Hazzard-style,” according to a witness.
The vehicle struck a Kia Sorrento (carrying a family of five) that was in the northbound lanes of Brunette at the red light, causing it to flip on its roof.
The vehicle continued over Brunette and over the barrier on the eastbound on ramp and landed in a ravine.
A massive response of first responders were on scene.
The Brunette overpass, as well as the eastbound off-ramp has been closed for the investigation.
