The first Rudolph 5-km Run will be held at Coquitlam's Mundy Park on Dec. 7.

Rudolph’s red nose may help guide Santa’s sleigh on Christmas Eve, but, on Dec. 7, it will lead about 350 runners through the dark woods of Coquitlam’s Mundy Park.

That’s when the Kamino race series will hold its first Rudolph 5-km Run to support the SHARE food bank.

The timed fun run begins at the park’s field house at 11 a.m. and circumnavigates almost the entire 400-acre urban forest.

Participants are encouraged to dress up in festive attire for the event and every donation to the food bank is rewarded with an entry to win one of 15 gift cards to purchase a turkey at The Little Butcher in Port Moody.

Registration is $45 and can be done online or the day of the race beginning at 10 a.m. All finishers will get a medal and there will be raffles for other swag.

The Kamino race series is operated by Coquitlam resident Daniel Simpson in an effort to grow the running community in the city. It’s named after the street where he grew up, El Camino Drive.

"i thought there was a bit of a gap, so I tried to launch something," Simpson said.

Its first event was held last April at Town Centre Park. It attracted more than 65 runners.

The group also organizes regular social runs on Wednesday evenings, some in collaboration with Patina Brewing Co. in Port Coquitlam.
