Port Moody’s holiday season officially launches Nov. 30 at the city’s annual Holiday Cheer at the Pier celebration.
Highlighted by thousands of colourful lights strung along Port Moody’s iconic pier at Rocky Point Park (2800-block of Murray Street), the free event also features musical performances, roving entertainers, a roaring bonfire along with hot chocolate and visits with Santa.
There will also be a chance to decorate a wooden ornament with the Port Moody Public Library and other craft activities, a pop-up city hall as well as three food trucks to sate hungry bellies.
At 6 p.m., a flotilla of brightly decorated Christmas ships is expected to sail past the pier.
Port Moody Mayor Meghan Lahti said, in a news release, the event “is a wonderful opportunity to connect with friends, family and neighbours, spend some time outdoors and enjoy he sights, sounds and tastes of the season.”
It’s also a way to help families that might be struggling as firefighters will kick off heir annual toy drive by collecting new, unwrapped toys and the Port Moody Police Department will be accepting non-perishable food items for the SHARE food bank.
Cheer at the Pier goes from 5 to 7 p.m., rain or shine.
Limited pay parking is available at Rocky Point Park but there is a much larger pay lot just across the Moody Street overpass at the Moody Centre SkyTrain station.
There are also transit options as the multi-use path along Murray Street for pedestrians and cyclists.
