Powerful winds that struck Coquitlam Thursday are not believed to be responsible for a house fire that sent one person and three dogs out of the home.
Coquitlam Deputy Fire Chief Rod Gill says the cause of the fire is undetermined, but it started on the exterior of the house in the 1100 block of Madore Avenue and climbed into the attic.
No one was hurt in the blaze that sent four engines, a rescue truck, a ladder truck and two chief officers to the scene.
“They were able to knock the fire down relatively quickly,” Gill said.
However, once the blaze was out, firefighters stayed on the scene to make sure the fire was totally out and to investigate.
There was very little other damage caused by the wind, Gill said, but some wires were knocked down in the Como Lake Avenue and Poirier Street.
Meanwhile, the person who lives in the house was not expected to return Thursday.
“Hopefully they’ve got some insurance and a place to stay,” Gill said.
