Port Coquitlam residents have two ways to celebrate Earth Week in the city this year.

On Saturday, April 26, the city will host a celebration at its public works yard (1737 Broadway St.) from 9 a.m. to noon that will include environmental education booths and prizes for participants.

At the event, Port Coquitlam residents can learn about the planet and also pick up:

  • free bark mulch
  • free compost
  • a tree for $25
    • Magnolia K Stell Royal Star (Star Magnolia)
    • Crataegus Mordenensis Toba (Toba Hawthorn)
    • Parrotia Persica (Persian ironwood)

Proof of residency is required for the mulch and compost offers, which are limited in quantity and available on a first come, first served basis. For the trees, however, PoCo residents are asked to sign up online by April 13, 2025, and the limit is one tree per household (in five-gallon pots plus a watering bag).

The city will also have 200-litre rain barrels for sale for $56 at its Earth Week event.

Meanwhile, also on April 26, the PoCo Garden Club will stage its annual fundraiser from 9 a.m. to noon at Trinity United Church (2211 Prairie Ave.), selling house plants, baked goods and tools (cash only). The 35th sale includes a 50/50 draw and gardening advice, too.

And, in Port Moody, the city will host its annual city-wide spring garage sale on the same day: April 26.

Participants can register their sale by 5 p.m., April 17 to have it advertised on Port Moody’s website at no cost. All homes must be within city limits.

Earth Week 2025 is April 20 to 27 while Earth Day is April 22. More than 190 countries take part in Earth Day and Earth Week activities each year.
