The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce is on the look for a new chief executive director.
On Tuesday, April 15, Leslie Courchesne announced she’ll be stepping down as leader of the non-profit organization that serves businesses and groups in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra.
Courchesne, a Port Moody resident, joined the Chamber in August 2021 to replace Michael Hind, who had held the post for 11 years.
The news of Courchesne’s departure comes two weeks after the Chamber’s Business Excellence Awards and a week before it hosts the federal all-candidates’ meeting on April 23. Chamber board chairperson Jennifer McKinnon will be moderating the all-candidates debate instead.
In her letter to Chamber members that was posted on LinkedIn, Courchesne wrote about the “incredible honour” to have served as CEO for the past four years.
As CEO, Courchesne also hosted economic summits, business showcases, educational panels, politician talks and the annual Tri-City mayors’ barbecue.
"I have deeply cherished my time at the Chamber and I am so proud of all we have accomplished on behalf of our members," she told the Tri-City News on Wednesday, April 16. "We built up the Chamber to an all-time high of 1,300 member organizations, strengthened local businesses, landed ground-breaking partnerships and advocated for economic growth throughout the Tri-Cities and beyond."
She added, "It's great to leave on a high note and I feel now is the right time to step aside. We have accomplished what I set out to achieve during my time here. I want to express my utmost gratitude. It has been a privilege to work alongside the amazing staff team, board, volunteers and members at such a dedicated and forward-thinking Chamber."
Courchesne said she's unsure when she'll leave the organization.
