Edo Japan has expanded into the Tri-Cities with a location along Nicola Avenue in Port Coquitlam.

There's a new grill on Port Coquitlam's teppanyaki scene.

Edo Japan has expanded for the first time into the Tri-Cities, opening its doors last Sunday, Aug. 11, inside the Home Depot along Nicola Avenue.

Port Coquitlam is Edo's 36th location in all of B.C. out of, what is now, more than 200 across Canada.

The latest addition is also part of the restaurant's 45-year milestone since it's inception in Calgary, Alta., in 1979.

Edo prides itself on "taste, culture and community," it's website states, as instilled by its founder Reverend Susumu Ikuta.

"He opened Edo Japan [...] as a means for both nourishing and providing for the community. This inclusive philosophy is at the core of our company of franchisees to this day."

Edo also boasts it's teppanyaki meals and bowls made fresh by hand, which come with a selection of meats, vegetables, rice and noodles, as well as generous helpings of teriyaki sauce.

There are also Bento Boxes with two-side choices — including tempura shrimp, spring rolls and edamame — and "easi platters" for sushi lovers.

As of this publication, Aug. 15, it appears Port Coquitlam residents have embraced Edo's arrival.

"They’ve already nailed it," a gust said in a review online. "The service was top-notch, and the restaurant was spotless [...] Definitely worth a visit!"

"I was excited to see a new restaurant opening up in the neighbourhood," said another. "Staff is super friendly, they made recommendations and came to check in on us to make sure we were enjoying our food."

"I have been coming to Edo Japan since I was a kid. Since they got rid of the one at Brentwood Mall [Burnaby] it's hard to find them around town," a third commenter explained. "The food was fresh and still taste the same as it did 20-plus years ago."

Edo Japan is located at 1120-1043 Nicola Ave. and is open seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Residents can order and dine in-person, as well as order for pick-up and delivery.
