Douglas College celebrates new "Do" brand today

Douglas College has taken a page out of Nike's book with it's exhortation "Do" to inspire students to take action to explore careers and post-secondary education options.

While acknowledging that "Do" recalls the international sportswear company's "Just Do It" slogan, marketing manager Sean Kelly said the college's new brand is not a copy but similar in intent.

"It's a little bit aspirational and inspirational," Kelly agreed.

On Thursday, the college rolled out the "Do" slogan as part of a year-long rebranding project.

Kelly said "Do" is the short form of the message the college is trying to get out to students to "do what you love and be good at it."

The college spent a year canvassing ideas and opinions from students, Kelly said, and learned they wanted their learning environment to be smart, creative and engaging.

On Thursday, the college was expected to hand out prizes and encourage students to write inspirational messages on a three-dimensional model of the word "Do."
