Coquitlam RCMP are hoping to speak to any witnesses after an attempted purse snatching Sunday evening near Mundy Park.
Sometime between 7 and 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 3, two 20-year-old women were walking south on Linton Street, near Austin Avenue, when they noticed a group of three men behind them they felt were suspicious. Police said it soon became obvious to the women that the men were following them.
They tried to run but the men quickly caught up to them and reportedly tried to steal a purse from one of the women; the two fought back and the men fled when they saw a white or light-coloured vehicle drive by.
The women could only describe one of the alleged robbers as a dark-skinned, possibly south Asian man about 23 to 25 years old; he is about 6' tall with a medium build, dark hair and a beard, and was said to be dressed all in black and wearing a black baseball hat.
"We are very interested in talking to witnesses of this incident, especially the person(s) who drove by in a white car," Cpl. Jamie Chung said in a release. "If you saw a group of people appearing to be in a fight or struggle near Linton and Austin on Sunday evening, we urge you to call us."
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2013-3145, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
