A Coquitlam family and the RCMP are pleading for information about a wheelchair theft that has left a 15-year-old girl house-bound.
The black wheelchair was stolen from an apartment complex at 550 Cottonwood Ave. in Coquitlam on April 10 and police are going public now after exhausting all leads.
"It's unthinkable that someone would commit this despicable act," Cpl. Jamie Chung said in a press release Thursday morning. "The wheelchair serves as the 'legs' for this victim and now her mobility has been cruelly taken away from her.
"I urge the person who did this to do the right thing by returning the wheelchair to the rightful owner,"
The wheelchair was given to the disabled teenaged girl by the BC Children's Hospital and it was stored underneath the stairs on the ground floor of their apartment building because of its heavy weight. On the morning of April 10, the family discovered the chair was missing and the daughter has been house-bound ever since.
