Furniture giant Ikea Canada is helping Tri-City residents recycle their gently used furniture and old electronics safely.
On Saturday, Nov. 28, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., shoppers can drop off their unwanted furniture and electronics at a contactless drop-off point in the Ikea parking lot (1000 Lougheed Hwy., Coquitlam).
The program is part of the company’s “green and circular economy” efforts.
In a press release, Ikea noted that tons of furniture and electronics end up in a landfill every year, and its environmental program is a way to reduce waste — especially at a time when people are buying more for on Black Friday and for holiday giving.
Shelter to Home, a member of the Furniture Bank network, will host the drop off while Ikea co-workers will be on hand to ensure physical distancing. In exchange, donors will receive a voucher for $25 off a purchase of $150.
The Electronic Products Recycling Association will collect the electronics such as computers, printers and phones.
