Coquitlam fire crews are on the scene of a large house fire in the 1500 block of Coast Meridian Road.

Chief Jim Ogloff at Coquitlam Fire and Rescue said that the house was "fully involved" when crews arrived after a call at about 12:30 p.m., and all the occupants are safe.

"All the occupants of the house are accounted for," he told The Tri-City News.

Approximately 20 firefighters are on the scene.

The smoke was so thick it could be seen as far away as Port Coquitlam.

Frances Fraser told the Tri-City News the fire looked "pretty big."
