The new fund is designed to help immigrant students, who live in Coquitlam, with their college or university tuition. It also aims to address the workforce shortages in the engineering and healthcare sectors.

The scholarships will be handed out based on academic achievement, community involvement and financial need; applications will be available starting Dec. 1, 2024.

“We are excited to launch this new scholarship fund, which aligns with our mission to strengthen our community by investing in education,” said Carol Brodie, executive director of the Coquitlam Foundation, in a news release. “By supporting students in nursing and engineering, we are not only helping them achieve their dreams but also contributing to the future well-being and economic vitality of our community.”
