The Coquitlam Express could move into second place in the BC Hockey League Coastal Conference with a win over the Surrey Eagles Monday, March 10, at the South Surrey Arena.
The two teams are currently tied with 58 points in 47 games. And they’re just one point behind the Victoria Grizzles, which currently occupy second place but has played one less game.
The Express clinched its place in the post-season with a second straight win, 5-2, over the division-leading Chilliwack Chiefs Saturday at the Chilliwack Coliseum. Coquitlam also beat the Chiefs 3-2 Friday at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.
Saturday, the Express spotted Chilliwack a 1-0 lead midway through the first period but then scored four straight to seize control and its fifth win over the Chiefs in six meetings this season.
Mason Kesselring scored three times and Thomas Zocco added four assists to lead Coquitlam’s scoring.
Zocco, a rookie, now has 51 points in 42 games.
Andrew Ness made 26 saves to earn his 13th win in the 20 games he’s played in the Express net since he was acquired from the Penticton Vees in November.
Coquitlam fired 20 shots at Chiefs’ goalie Sebastian Gatto.
Monday’s game will be the seventh meeting of the season between the Express and Eagles; Coquitlam has won only once, an 8-6 shootout on Dec. 14.
