There's been an increased growth in vegetation along the stairs of the Coquitlam Crunch.
As a result, the city is set to conduct trail management this week with detours in place so local residents can still visit and utilize the popular recreation site.
Temporary closures are set to take effect between 7:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. from now until Friday (June 24) for crews to work along the stairs between Lansdowne Drive and upper Lansdowne Drive.
Upward traffic will be allowed to pass while maintenance is taking place.
Downward traffic is set to be redirected onto Lansdowne Drive or Steeple Drive to get back to the main trail.
"Preventative work will be undertaken, including vegetation control around the stairs and pathways," explains Erin Gorby, Coquitlam's manager of urban forestry and parks services, in a news release sent to the Tri-City News.
"City crews will be blocking off the area of work with barriers and will have signage up informing the public of the closure and detour."
Residents wishing to visit the Coquitlam Crunch during the temporary closure are asked to use the parking lots off Runnel Drive or in Bramble or Eagle Ridge parks.
Gorby encourages the public to also respect the surrounding neighbourhood and to obey all traffic laws.
"Increased use during the [COVID-19] pandemic has intensified traffic, parking and safety concerns for residents of the area."
The Crunch trail — with 240 metres of elevation gain — has estimated to welcome around 52,000 users per month during peak season.
