Town Centre Park has five parking lots with 820 spaces.
Navigating the popular Coquitlam site can be challenging during peak visitor season or during festivals, but there's now giving residents a new avenue to "know before you go."
The city recently added a parking page to its website with a special real-time feature that displays the exact number of stalls open at any given time at Town Centre Park, as well as the Lansdowne Way lot at the Coquitlam Crunch.
A green bar appears when a few stalls have been taken, while a yellow bar means the lot is filling up. A map is also included to show where the lots are located.
In June 2021, Coquitlam added five digital signs around Town Centre Park to alert patrons how many parking spots are open upon entry to the site.
The new ones were placed at lots A, C, D and E, and the at the intersection of Pinetree Way and Trevor Wingrove Way.
"Real-time digital parking signs are becoming an industry standard in the public and private sector," explains Danny Bandiera, Coquitlam's manager of information and communication technology.
"The signs also improve motorist and pedestrian safety, curb illegal parking, reduce vehicle idling and alleviate traffic congestion in parking lots and along nearby roads."
The Coquitlam Crunch has 55 parking stalls — located at the south side of the trail before hikers make the 2.2-kilometre uphill climb of more than 400 stairs to the summit on Eagle Ridge Drive.
