As several Tri-City businesses that experienced a COVID-19 exposure have returned to work, one other workplace has been shut down.

A CIBC Coquitlam branch is the latest to be warned by Fraser Health of at least three employees who recently tested positive for the virus.

As a result, its location at 1410 Parkway Blvd. East is now closed for 10 days as of Thursday (May 27).

It's the first time in 10 days a Tri-City region business has had to close due to COVID-19.

Colwin Electrical Group in Port Moody and Canada Cartage's Port Coquitlam location recently ended their closure periods.

Currently, there are 11 workplaces across the authority with a closure in effect, partial or in full, after being flagged for COVID-19.

Since April 8, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has asked all authorities to disclose the names of workplaces where three or more people have COVID-19 and transmission is likely to have occurred.

With the new order, the closure notice can be served by the health authority’s environmental health officers or WorkSafeBC with the goal to stop any potential spread of the virus and limiting community transmission.

“By using targeted worksite closures around current cases of COVID-19, we may be able to avoid or delay broader workplace closure measures, which could close entire business sectors,” states Fraser Health on its website.

As of this publication (May 28), Fraser Health has recorded 83,523 lab-confirmed COVID-19 infections, including 189 newly-detected cases in the last 24 hours.

There have been 890 virus-linked deaths in the regional authority since the start of the pandemic.

Currently, there are 1,938 active cases, 49 people admitted into critical care among 149 hospitalizations and 80,610 recoveries.
