A Charlene Reaveley Children's Charity Society gala that will raise money for families that have experienced a traumatic event will be held at the Dogwood Pavilion on April 4.
This will be the third time the event has been held and will feature bar service, a silent auction and lots of door prizes, according to society organizer Dan Reaveley.
"It's just a gala that we do every year," Reaveley said. "The money and proceeds go to helping families with their grief."
Reaveley lost his wife Charlene in a hit-and-run collision along the Lougheed Highway in 2011. The crash also took the life of Lorraine Cruz, who Charlene was helping on the side of the road at the time they were struck.
Reaveley told The Tri-City News on Friday that April 4 is Charlene's birthday and that Cruz was born on April 3 in the Philippines, which would be April 4 in Canada.
"They have the same birthday," he said. "That's why we have [the gala on April 4."
The event will also feature the music by Randy Elvis Friskie and a band called The Basements. Doors open at 6:30 and there will be a catered dinner at 7:15 p.m. Reaveley said that a car service will be offering discounts for those who need a ride home.
