FIREARMS CHANGES
Shooting a crossbow or bow and arrow in Port Coquitlam is now one step closer to being prohibited after council voted unanimously in favour of introducing amendments to its firearms prohibition bylaw Monday night.
Previously, the bylaw restricted the discharge of firearms and spring guns but crossbows and bows and arrows were not included in either category. On Monday, staff recommended council approve the bylaw changes that include arrow weapons in the regulations.
Even with the changes to the regulations, a person is still allowed to fire a weapon in the municipality if they are protecting livestock from attack under the Livestock Act.
The bylaw changes will be adopted after council approves fourth and final reading of the bylaw amendment.
ATM FEES
The cost of operating and licensing an automated teller machine in Port Coquitlam is expected to decrease.
On Monday, council voted in favour of a recommendation to drop the annual fee from $500 to $170, bringing the cost in line with those in neighbouring municipalities.
Across Metro Vancouver, the average cost of licensing an ATM is approximately $165 and several businesses had asked the city to review its policy.
The $170 fee PoCo will now charge was based on an average of the current rates in New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Moody, Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge.
