Vincent Wu has run for a council seat in past elections and continues to believe he's the "best choice for bringing fresh ideas and diversity and representation to city council," he said. What makes Wu stand out from other contenders, he said, is his Chinese-Canadian background, his 20-plus years working in the Chinese media and his longtime volunteerism including on multicultural committees with the city and Coquitlam Foundation. "I know the issues and I know the people in the neighbourhood.... I think I can play a role in bridging the ethnic community with the city hall."
Contacted while door-knocking and placing lawn signs on Westwood Plateau, Wu said he's hearing that voters want a change at city hall as well as more public engagement.
As for the upcoming financial plan talks, Wu said if he's elected he wants to examine the books in detail and cut services where needed, but only with the community's support. Wu said he also wants to make the taxation system stronger.
As for Riverview Hospital, Wu said it's vital "we preserve the natural assets for our city. I don't want to see commercial [development] there in the future."
