Ben Kim has a PhD in sociology and believes this will translate well in representing the city, in which he does not live (Kim resides in Port Moody, two blocks from the Coquitlam border). Canada, he said, "has been very good to me and I want to pay it back by actively providing my community services."
He said he's not supported by any "party machinery" and said he will soon start door knocking with his campaign team.
If elected, the economist plans to make Coquitlam affordable and sustainable. "They will be my guiding principles," he said.
As for the future of Riverview Hospital, Kim said it's a complex issue. "At the provincial level, a decision has been made," he claimed. City council needs to deliberate with "professional staff who are paid by the payroll of the city of Coquitlam." The final decision must reflect the majority of the community's wishes, he said.
