Ben Craig said Burquitlam has been under-represented on city council for too long and that is why he is running. "Our region is about to transform in the next decade and we need a strong voice on council to be at that planning table," he said.
Craig said he differs from other contenders as he has been active at the civic level for four years and "it seems like I haven't seen the other candidates at meetings until election time recently. I've been fighting for the needs of my region at every town hall meeting and public hearing for the last four years."
On the doorstep, Craig said most residents are concerned about the cost of government; people say their taxes are too steep. If elected, Craig wants to bring down the property taxes for businesses and find efficiencies at city hall, especially when it comes to managers' salaries.
On the Riverview front, Craig hopes the former hospital site will be kept public and as a care facility "because I believe that faction of the society needs a place to go and a place to be treated."
