"There's a lot of things that I was involved in on council, when I was there, that I would like go back to work with," said Barrie Lynch, who in the 2011 election lost his seat after unsuccessfully challenging Mayor Richard Stewart. "I want to ensure, as the city grows, the needs of the citizens are met."

Lynch said his past experience in public office is crucial as voters will be electing two councillors for only a one-year mandate. "I think if we're spending $150,000 to elect two councillors, the expectation is that they get to work right away."

If elected, Lynch wants to look at how the city arrives at its taxation rate. "I've always advocated we should decide what we think the residents can afford and stay within that limit," he said.

Lynch wants Riverview Hospital kept as a mental health centre and its arboretum saved. "Because we are getting such density, the parkland there is very valuable to the city. We need to maintain that because once we lose it we will never get it back."
