The new Burke Mountain Fire Hall in Coquitlam has been operational for a couple of weeks.

The 17,440-sq. ft. facility boasts four truck bays and Fire Chief Wade Pierlot said that as northeast Coquitlam grows, it will become a vital part of the city's fire response.

It also features a new $160,000 4x4 light attack vehicle, equipped with a 2,000-gallon water tank, removable fire pump and medical equipment.

Sixteen firefighters will be relocated permanently to the new facility, which can grow to accommodate two emergency response companies operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week as the neighbourhood grows.
